Case study · Farm & Creamery

Scalawag Farm and what runs it.

A licensed goat dairy's storefront — and the shop dashboard behind it.

Scalawag Farm is a fully licensed Nigerian Dwarf goat dairy in South China, Maine: award-winning chèvre, raw milk, and a herd with fans. WebsiteMike built the site that tells the story and sells the merch, then the dashboard the farm runs it from.

The public site

  • 01

    The story and the herd

The farm's voice front and centre — the dairy, the cheese, the goats' 'absurd, silly demeanors' — with a meet-the-herd page, a blog and the market schedule for where to buy this week.

  • 02

    A shop with a cart

Merch, gifts and farm donations sold straight from the site: calendar, mug, tote, a 'support the herd' donation. Cart, checkout and a newsletter signup for kidding-season news.

The system behind it

  • 01

A dashboard the farm signs into

The shop and the site's content are managed from the farm's own dashboard, on the farm's own database — not a template's admin, and not ours.

  • 02

One click from the client portal

Scalawag's WebsiteMike portal opens the farm dashboard with a single sign-on, and support requests route through the same portal with credits, priorities and turnaround shown up front.

  • 03

Shipped as a build, not a page

The site is authored as one editable page and shipped as a compiled bundle behind a tiny shell, with staging previews the farm approves before anything goes live.

// described, not screenshotted — a client's back office stays private

6.9 KBhomepage shell, down from 3 MB

The site was written as a single 3 MB page. Production ships a 6.9 KB shell plus a precompiled bundle, so the first paint isn't waiting on megabytes of source.

“Mike has been phenomenal through every step of the website creation process. The final product looks excellent, professional, and is way better than anything we could have hoped for by doing it ourselves.”
